Coronation Street actor Connor McIntyre has admitted that he will be sad to say goodbye to his villainous alter ego Pat Phelan – but added that he is ready for the character to bow out as the story comes to a big conclusion.

There are still many more twists to play out in Phelan’s story and Connor has his own ideas on how the big ending should unfold but he has placed his full faith in Corrie’s writing team to provide a suitable and exciting final chapter.

Explaining that there will come a time when there is no further use for Phelan in storylines, Connor is clearly more than prepared to finish the long running saga off with a dramatic flourish – but having played such a huge character for several years, it will leave a hole in his life.

After being awarded the Best bad Boy prize at the recent awards, he told Inside Soap: ‘I’ll be there until there is no more need for Pat Phelan – and of course I’ll miss him!’

Pondering where the story should go from here, he added: ‘You’d think the writers would have to offer an Eileen and Phelan confrontation. The only people that could get Pat to sit down and confront his behaviour would be Eileen and Nicola. That would be lovely, but I trust the Corrie team implicitly.’

Fans recently saw Phelan force Andy Carver to kill Vinny Ashford before he then turned the gun on his hostage too – and Connor recently warned that the body count could rise again.

It has been clarified a number of times both by Connor and Corrie that Phelan will eventually get his comeuppance but no timeframe has been confirmed for an exit storyline.
